Absolutely amazing pump!! Wish I had this sooner!

This pump is absolutely amazing. I have used the Medela Freestyle and the Medela Symphony. I used the freestyle with my first when I went back to work and my great supply died. I figured it was due to going back to work. 2 nd LO was born 14 weeks early and I was thrust into exclusive pumping. I used the symphony which was a step up. But it hurt to pump and I struggled with let down. Sometimes 10-15 would go by and I could not have let down. It would just hurt. It would take me 45 min at least to pump.So I read the great reviews and took the plunge. Best decision ever!! I now get 2-4 let downs while I pump. I can get more milk with just 30 min of pumping. It is much more comfortable. If it hurts I sit at a lower lever for 5 min then increase. This never helped with my other pumps. I also can move around the house as I am able to charge it. I have also taken it else where and to others house (I am now on leave) and I did not buy the tote but it fits fine in a backpack and the tote that came with my medela pump. I love this pump. Every pumping mom needs this pump...and its a travesty that my LC at my NICU had never heard if Spectra pumps.I was able to use my medela kit....however keep in mind using another kit could void the warranty. I didn't see that anywhere on the site or here on . I am ordering the right kit from there site as it is not offered on . I never knew what backflow was......love my pump and I don't want to harm it so I'm going to suck it up and pay for more kits. But seriously...,this is the best. My only regret is not getting the kit right away and not have this sooner. It would have made the 12 weeks in the nicu better. But now that we have exclusively pump I am even happier I purchased it. And I no long dread having to pump when I go back to work. These need to be on every shelf where pumps are sold.

so far so good...

i purchased my spectra s1 in december when my first pump died and finally able to sit and write a well-deserved review. a bit of background, i'm a first-time mom and labor & delivery nurse. i'm still nursing my 7-month old son and going strong thanks to my spectra S1. i really did a lot of research on pumps and placed my lifestyle routine into heavy consideration. a big part of that was mobility and being able to pump with out a power source. thanks to the rechargeable battery, i'm able to do just that. i purchased this pump with the pumping pals inserts as suggested by another reviewer and found the combination excellent in helping build and maintain my freezer stash. even though my son is about to start solids, he still drinks breast milk as his primary source before eating especially since we are doing baby-led weening. i've also been able to compare this pump with a hospital-grade pump we use on my floor and it's pretty much the same in comparison, except the $2000 price difference. hehe.what i love about this pump:-customer service is great when it comes to parts and questions, which is key with a lot of products. I've dealt with heidi and she's been great with getting what i needed to me fast-portability with the rechargeable battery-it's light weight, compared to some other brands of the same price-it's quiet, compared to another pump i had that crapped out on me which sounded like a jack hammer!-less parts to clean!! omg, i didn't think i'd complain about this with my first one, but when i really started to develop a routine waiting for parts to dry and piece together at whatever hour got ridiculous and cumbersome-night light is pretty neat for night/early morning pumping before work - this is great when i want to pump and nurse my son a the same time. pumping and nursing done together has yielded the most amount of milk for me, so when i can, i try to do this in the mornings to keep up with my stashmy only critique: a bag or tote would have been nice. i happen to inherit a breast pump bag from a friend and use that. otherwise any other bag would work. just be careful the ON button isn't pressed by accident or the battery will drain out. the website is tricky to navigate, so i just email customer service directly.all this said, i hope people considering pumping for whatever reason really consider this pump. breast feeding is a challenge that can be overcome with help and advice. if there's any questions, i'd love to help. happy bf'ing!! =)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this pump!

I'm a first time mom and originally planned to pump exclusively so I ordered a Medela PISA because I thought it was one of the best pumps out there... boy was I wrong! I ended up nursing and only pumping once a day because it was so painful and I could barely express a few ounces of milk! I spent a ton of money on Medela parts thinking maybe I had something defective and I was set on providing milk for our newborn...After feeling totally defeated and as if I was the problem, I decided to do some research on difficult let down and stumbled upon this pump. I ordered it on a whim thinking what's the worst that could happen... my first pumping session produced nearly 9 ounces! I was blown away! Plus it didn't hurt! I consistently pump between 5 and 9 ounces per 20 to 30 minute session and can pump 3 to 4 times per day without any discomfort. I still nurse our baby for ease but will be returning to work shortly and will need to be able to provide milk for the nanny to use during the day so I actually bought a second one of these to keep at my office. The most amazing part is the ability to separate the suction speed from the rhythm so you're able to simulate how your baby nurses.Also... if you're like me and purchased a TON of Medela accessories and pump parts - you can use them! I just use the Medela tubes, they're a little tight to get on at first but then you can use the Medela parts like normal. I also use duckbill valves which some people have problems with but I find them easier to use than the Medela valves with the white membranes. If you have a difficult time pumping with a difficult let-down, try this pump!

LOVE!!! So glad I took the chance and bought this!

This is one of the two best purchases I have made as a new first-time mom (the other is the Snuza Portable Baby Movement Monitor)! Here is some background about me: I am an exclusive pumper. I hemorrhaged very badly after the birth of my son, and my milk supply was extremely late coming in and extremely low due to the large blood loss. My son is a large baby (he weighed 10 pounds 1 ounce at birth and 15.5 pounds at 8 weeks), and he started to have difficulty due to so little milk. He became dehydrated and began losing weight very quickly. At 4 days old, I began supplementing with formula using a SNS at first and then a bottle. He wouldn't stay latched long enough (even with the SNS) to empty my breasts and tell my body to make more milk. Working with a lactation consultant, I decided to make the switch to exclusive pumping when my son was 3 weeks old. I began renting a Medela Symphony for the first 3.5 weeks. It did help my milk supply increase some (I went from 4-5mL every 2 hours to .5 ounces), but I found it painful to use even on the lowest suction. It also was very heavy and not portable - it was difficult even to move it from room to room. It was also pretty loud, although my son found the white noise it created to be soothing and it did not seem to bother him. I knew I had to purchase a pump since I would be going back to work eventually. After many hours of research and comparing different pumps, I took the leap of faith and bought this pump. (I was leery because there were so few reviews and very little information available about this pump and brand in the U.S.)Once I decided to purchase a Spectra pump, I was undecided about whether to get the S1 or the S2. I didn't know if I could justify spending over $100 more for the battery option. I am glad I spent the extra money on the S1 since this is something I use at least 6 times every day. The battery option is definitely convenient, and I use it often. However, I wouldn't consider it a necessity for me, but that's just my opinion based on my individual situation!I could not be happier with my decision! Not only does this pump empty my breasts better than the Medela Symphony, it is also MUCH less painful, even on the highest suction setting. My son is now 13 weeks old, and I've been using this pump for 2 months. My milk supply is still not enough to stop supplementing, but it has increased from .5 ounces every 2-3 hours to 2.5-3 ounces. (I am also taking Fenugreek, but I have been taking it since my son was one week old. In addition, I realize this increase is likely in part due to my blood supply increasing.)This pump is quiet enough that I can pump in the middle of the night while in bed with my husband beside me and my son in the co-sleeper next to me and it never wakes or even disturbs either of them. It is also VERY portable and lightweight, especially for being a hospital grade pump. I started back to work this week, and I can pump several times a day in my office and no one is bothered or even knows I am pumping. I did not think the nightlight was important or a feature I would care about, but I use it every night and have found it to be very convenient for pumping in the dark without disturbing anyone. If you are wondering (like I did) if this pump is too good to be true, wonder no longer! This pump meets and exceeds all of my needs and expectations as an exclusive pumper! I would highly recommend it to anyone.Note: I also purchased two of the Spectra Baby USA Silicone Massagers and I would not recommend these. Not only did they do nothing for my milk supply, but they were extremely uncomfortable and even painful at times. I used them twice and that was it. They are unnecessary as this pump functions great without them!
